The global Open Data Movement seeks to harness the potential of big data, traditionally the domain of the private sector, and utilize it to simplify daily tasks for citizens, such as payments and accessing public services. It also aims to inform public policy with data-driven insights. We express gratitude to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) for inviting civil society to respond to their whitepaper on ‘National Open Digital Ecosystems’ (NODE).
At The Dialogue, we strongly believe in the transformative power of technology to bring positive change to society. We engage with citizens and stakeholders on issues relevant in our fast-evolving technological world, with a long-term goal of fostering sustainable reforms through informed public opinion and citizen participation. Data, as a valuable resource, has the potential to shape new futures, enhance living standards, drive innovation, and promote inclusion. The intersection of technology and societal change must involve all stakeholders and beneficiaries, firmly rooted in a framework of rights.
We perceive that the current NODE framework aligns well with our mission statement. NODEs are described as transparent, secure digital platforms with governance mechanisms that enable partner communities to unlock innovative solutions for societal betterment. As the government transitions toward Govtech 3.0 and formulates a national strategy, we believe that certain crucial aspects require further deliberation and consultation.
