In today’s digital world, tech-based services have brought both connectivity and new harms, disproportionately impacting communities due to deep-seated patriarchal and misogynistic mindsets. Existing efforts suffer from fragmented interventions, minimal collaboration, and an imbalanced focus on aspects of digital safety.
Our research introduces a comprehensive framework to bridge these gaps, encouraging open conversation among stakeholders. This framework comprises six stages:
1. Access:
- Rationale: Ensure equitable technology access for women and gender minorities, especially in crisis situations.
- Impact: Empower individuals to seek timely aid and support for their causes.
2. Prevention:
- Rationale: Transform societal norms fostering TFGBV.
- Impact: Amplify marginalized voices and promote healthier gender perceptions.
3. Early Intervention:
- Rationale: Empower vulnerable communities, as societal change takes time.
- Impact: Enable communities to proactively shield themselves and minimize harm.
4. Response and Redressal:
- Rationale: Harmonize accessible reporting and responsive legal mechanisms.
- Impact: Ensure timely justice, restoring faith in the system and deterring potential perpetrators.
5. Recovery and Healing:
- Rationale: Dedicate efforts to healing and reintegrating survivors.
- Impact: Create a compassionate environment for survivors to seek professional support and lasting well-being.
6. Research:
- Rationale: Continuous data sharing for adapting to the dynamic TFGBV landscape.
- Impact: Enhance research capacities for informed strategies and inclusive solutions for the most vulnerable.
Our framework encourages stakeholders to collaborate, bridge gaps, and take a holistic approach to combating TFGBV in India.
