Importance of Multistakeholder Conversations on AI – A Quantitative Survey

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly benefited society and the economy, especially in education, by enabling interactive learning and multilingual content translation. Over the past decade, discussions among stakeholders have focused on enhancing AI capabilities, infrastructure, market access, upskilling, and responsible technology evolution.

As AI’s role grows, robust and inclusive conversations are crucial. Multistakeholder engagement, involving governments, businesses, academia, and civil society, is essential for ethical AI development. This approach, successful in ICT governance, is now recognized as vital for AI, enhancing capabilities, mitigating risks, and addressing societal impacts.

Global organizations like the OECD and the UN emphasize the importance of multistakeholder collaboration in AI governance. Initiatives like the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) showcase the effectiveness of diverse expert input in shaping AI policies.

In India, however, multistakeholder initiatives are limited. Our study aims to assess the perspectives within the Indian AI ecosystem on the need for such an approach. By collecting data from industry representatives, start-ups, experts, academicians, and civil society organizations, we aim to:

  • Lay the groundwork for future inclusive AI discussions in India.
  • Develop initiatives that balance innovation with ethical considerations and societal well-being.

This study contributes to fostering holistic and nuanced AI discourses in India.
