On 7 August 2025, The Dialogue hosted the ๐Ÿฏ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ ๐—”๐—ป๐—ป๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—–๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐˜„ ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐——๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—”๐—ด๐—ฒ, convening global thought leaders to debate how competition policy must adapt to fast-changing technological, economic, and geopolitical realities.

The conference was anchored by two influential keynotes: ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฟ๐—ถ ๐—ฆ. ๐—ž๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ป (Secretary, MeitY), who framed Indiaโ€™s digital ambitions and regulatory imperatives, and ๐——๐—ฟ. ๐—™๐—ฟ๐—ฒฬ๐—ฑ๐—ฒฬ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฐ ๐—๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ป๐˜†, who offered a global perspective on evolving antitrust paradigms.

Three expert-led panels followed:

  • Panel 1: Tailoring Competition Policy Approaches to Evolving Geopolitical Dynamics explored how shifting trade and industrial policies are reshaping regulatory thinking.
  • Panel 2: Relevance of Competition Policy for AI Innovation examined how regulation can balance innovation with accountability in fast-moving AI markets.
  • Panel 3: Aligning Existing Competition Policy with Broader Economic Goals, which included remarks from ๐——๐—ฟ. ๐—ฆ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—บ๐—ถ๐˜ ๐—ฃ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ (Honโ€™ble Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha), assessed how India can integrate competition law within its growth agenda.

The day concluded with closing remarks by ๐— ๐—ฃ ๐—ฆ๐—ต๐—ฟ๐—ถ ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐˜‚ ๐—ฆ๐—ฟ๐—ถ ๐—ž๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ป๐—ฎ ๐——๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜†๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜‚, reflecting on Indiaโ€™s role in shaping global digital competition frameworks.

Across these deliberations, experts debated fundamental questions: How can competition law foster innovation without stifling startups? What role should geopolitics play in shaping market rules? Can India build regulatory frameworks that are globally interoperable yet locally relevant?

But the deeper questions remain unresolved: What risks lie ahead if India adopts global models without adaptation? How can regulators counter โ€œkiller acquisitionsโ€ while still encouraging entrepreneurial energy? And what vision of digital sovereignty should India advance on the global stage?
