Mr. Mrutyunjay Mahapatra is well-known in the Indian Banking and Financial Technology sector. He advises and consults several Indian and global banks, corporates, and fintech companies. Commencing his professional career at SBI in 1982, he held senior and CXO-level assignments in India, the UK, and the USA. Mr. Mahapatra was key in establishing new businesses such as Leasing, Private Equity, and Insurance for SBI.
As the Deputy Managing Director at SBI, he led global strategy, marketing, new businesses, digital initiatives, analytics, and IT. In his roles as CIO and CDO of SBI, he established innovation, data analytics, and enterprise architecture verticals, contributing to creating groundbreaking products like YONO, Loan Life Management System, and SBI Chatbot.
From 2018 to 2020, Mr. Mahapatra served as the CEO of Syndicate Bank, where he led the transformation, digital repositioning, and upgrading of one of India’s oldest and largest banks with over 4000 branches and 40000 staff.
Currently, he holds positions on the boards of RBIH, NSEIT, Nippon Life Insurance, Spice Money, Mayfair Hotels, and Quantum MF, and is a member of the Board of Supervision at NABARD. He also advises numerous Indian and international companies and is a Professor of Practice of Management at Manipal University.
