The Digital India programme is a flagship programme of the Government of India with a vision to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.

Launched in 2015, the programme Digital India consists of three core components development of secure and stable digital infrastructure, delivering government services digitally, and universal digital literacy.

The programme was developed with an objective of connecting rural areas with high-speed Internet networks and improving digital literacy. The vision of Digital India programme is inclusive growth in areas of electronic services, products, manufacturing and job opportunities etc. and it is centred on three key areas – Digital Infrastructure as a Utility to Every Citizen, Governance & Services on Demand and Digital Empowerment of Citizens.

Digital empowerment of citizens will pay emphasis on universal digital literacy and availability of digital resources/services in Indian languages. At the same time, the Government is keen that data should be stored in India.

As the programme enters its final phase, Centre for Knowledge Sovereignty, CENJOWS and The Dialogue have come together to jointly organise a conference on analysing the success and lessons learned for driving solutions in the Digital India programme:

The objective of the event is as follows:
1. Analyse the success and challenges of the Digital India programme 2. Big Data Analytics and its potential to drive growth
3. Identify challenges and solutions going forward
4. Analyse the opportunity for storing data in India
5. Opportunities for setting up data infrastructure in India

The Conference, to be held at Constitution Club of India, on 12th June from 14:00 to 20:00 hours, will provide a forum to various stakeholder to present their thoughts on all aspects concerning Digital India. The cardinal aim and objective of the seminar is to leverage the insights gained as a nation to move ahead and ensure that we are not only agile and creating a lead in terms of domain knowledge but also put a framework – in terms of functional, measurable steps in improving our understanding and empowering our people with the basic nuances of cyber-security.
